Mr. BingoRage comes to town.

-
Early Summer. BingoRage Studio is moved to town for the season, hosted at #StudioChezZzorhn (Fort Frances).

We have been focused on 3-dimensional work for a couple months, but we are shifting towards painting again.
Z. and I are not bound by schedule, etc. but ebb and flow in interest and exploration.

The #ZzorhnAndBingoRage show set up our table at the 2013 #EmoWalleyeClassic to show off our wares, demonstrate our skills and entertain fishing-orphans and other wandering rugrats for an afternoon. It was quite an impressive setup (read: pain in the ass to set-up), showcasing works in "papier mache" (paper), bronze, antler, clay, acrylic paint and canvas. We did not generate any sales from that venue, but got a chance to get some feedback from a potential target audience; NW Ontario fishing groupies and beergarden glitterati.

#artkitteh , King Vases and possession

So...

It has been a while, BingoRagers.

If your only updates on my activities occur in this blog, then you are really missing my bleeding edge.
I post daily to facebook, twitter (link) and tumblr (link); recent studio pics, mostly.

I always thought of the blog as a place for "important works", but that has come to represent unfinished editing, etc. and must be vanquished with content.

Here are some recent works from our collaborations at #StudioChezZzorhn
All pics click for greater detail.

As you can see, a particularly troublesome nose was adjusted between the sculptural form and first paper.

Inaugural Zzorhn & BingoRage Wandercast

We are calling this the Inaugural podcast, basically because we really screwed up the first one; so, here is Episode 2. Don't expect total coherence.

2009, OAC Northern Arts Grant Application, Supplement

Heyo BingoRagers; I salute yous.

Heyo OAC jurors/panelists; welcome to the BingoRage! Thanks, in advance, for taking the time to check out this extra material, on your own time. I spent a week reading applications this spring and I appreciate the extra effort.

So, here's the deal:

I am applying for an Ontario Arts Council (OAC), Northern Arts Grant, in collaboration with Spirit Fire Park (the park"), in Devlin, Ontario.

The grant application is seeking to fund four project elements:
- The extension of a multipurpose mural-wall, with a "theatrical-stage" background element at the park.
- The delivery of a mural-painting workshop for local youth program, UMAYC (fort Frances) (with a contingent paintball event, depending on United Native Friendship Centres program safety guidelines), culminating in a two-day mural-painting event at the park.
- The construction and installation of monumental papier-mache sculpture in the park, including: a) premade elements molded on steel, foam and clay armatures, and b) smaller elements constructed onsite, with a methodology developed through the "Arthur, Warrior and his Bow, Excalibur" project.
- The public "presentation"/opening of the park's new installations, including a performance by NorthWestern Ontario's well-known musician, Rodney Brown and a guided "theatrical tour" of the park. Mr. Brown's repertoire includes historical songs about the region. The park's campground will be opened to the public in order to encourage an intimate relationship with the land and the art.

This blog-posting will be updated throughout the grants application process so that application jurors/panel will have the opportunity to review materials that wouldn't fit in the application packet. That includes updated materials that come-to-be after the application deadline and older stuff that would never fit.

As far as I know, no other OAC or CCA grant application has been, essentially, shared outside the jury process. I hope that by doing so, that the entire project will benefit by word-of-mouth and word-of-social network. As well, I hope that this publication of the effort will lead to increased grant application success in "the north", as well as for other artists outside the major urban/art centres.

First off; I mentioned the "test-wall" in our grant application, but didn't include a picture in the supplemental materials. We built a section of our proposed wall with sponsor, Lakewood Tire (Fort Frances), in the summer of 2007.

The mural-wall consists of: upright posts cemented into the ground by concrete, connected by plywood sheets, kept upright by 2"x4" lumber braces (until concrete dries) and protected by latex exterior paint, which also serves as a neutral background for mural installation.

Recent additions to the test-wall include park logo, paintball team logos, sculptural elements and safety instruction.

Some Google "Sketchup" mockups of the "mural-wall" extensions. The proposed actual additions will will be in a slightly different configuration (coming). For instance, the theatre stage background will be narrower, with beveled "wings" and a sand-pad "stage", instead of a poured concrete pad (for now).

The proposed layout of the mural wall will differ from these initial sketches and will be updated shortly.
